The views below were nothing short of spectacular—Shimla’s dense green forests, dotted with colorful houses and misty mountain ridges stretching endlessly. It was as though nature itself was welcoming me to a more spiritual plane. The experience of riding the Jakhu Ropeway in Shimla was a fitting start to the spiritual journey that awaited me.
Jakhu Temple
After the thrilling ride, I arrived at Jakhu Temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, perched at a dizzying 8,000 feet. Legend has it that this is the spot where Hanuman stopped to rest while on his journey to fetch the Sanjeevani herb to save Lord Lakshman. How do I put it, “it is a form of Shakti.” The temple had an aura that relieved my mind after the long trek, up the winding roads, beneath it exuding a palpable sense of history and deep rooted faith that hangs in the air.
The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, from this vantage point. It’s as though time has paused while I take in the valley below me. The tranquility here is profound and peaceful; all I can hear are the echoes of a temple bell in the distance and the gentle melodies of birds singing softly in the backdrop. The Tara Devi Temple holds a significance for me as a place where I go to contemplate life and seek wisdom from the divine. I offer my prayers for clarity. Express my gratitude to the Goddess for guiding me along this path.
Hatu Mata Temple
After Tara Devi, the journey took me further up into the hills to the Hatu Mata Temple. Located at a height of 11,000 feet on Hatu Peak, the temple is dedicated to Hatu Mata, who is considered a form of Durga. The drive was long and arduous, but the rewards were worth it.
Hatu Mata Temple felt like it was carved out of the mountains themselves, almost touching the sky. The temple is relatively small, but its spaciousness and energy are immense. I sat down and looked at the towering Himalayan ranges, and for the first time, I truly felt what it meant to be connected to something larger than life. The high altitude, the cold breeze, and the majestic mountains made me feel as though I had found a direct line to the divine.
Shiv Mandir
We then arrived at Shiv Mandir in a village – a temple that may not boast grand architecture, like others. But captivates with its simplicity and allure of peace and tranquility; an experience of spirituality distinct, in its serenity and calmness.
While engaging in my rituals today, I sensed a soothing wave enveloping me, reminiscent of the tranquil flow of a stream, in the mountains. I sat in contemplation for some time, pondering the wisdom of Lord Shiva on letting go and fostering serenity. It was a moment of humility, a nudge that spirituality’s n’t solely about searching but also about discovering peace from within.
Mahu Nag Temple
Finally, I visited Mahu Nag Temple, located in the peaceful hills near Karsog. This sanctuary honors the deity known as Mahi Nag. Is encircled by the vibrant greenery of the woods that envelop it in a captivating embrace. What truly captivated me about this place was its effortless integration with the environment around it. It felt like nature and the temple were intricately intertwined as one entity.
While strolling through the temple grounds, I was greeted by the aroma of pine and the soothing melody of rustling leaves. In that moment of serenity, I felt a bond with the earth, with nature, and with the energies that shape our universe. The Mahu Nag Temple served as a reminder that spirituality transcends physical structures and customary practices. It encompasses an appreciation, for the sanctity that surrounds us in everyday life.

My trip to Shimla wasn’t about visiting temples. It was a journey of self discovery and connecting with the beauty around me. The different energies, at each temple left a lasting impact on me. As I wrapped up my trip, I felt truly content.
